ORIENTATION

The 'ORIENTATION' axiom is one of the seven axioms of the Formal IMGT-ONTOLOGY or IMGT-Kaleidoscope [1-3].

The 'ORIENTATION' axiom postulates that molecules, cells, organs, organisms or populations and their processes and relations have to be orientated. The 'ORIENTATION' axiom has generated concepts of orientation, for example:

• the 'Genomic orientation' concept (for chromosome, locus and gene),
• the 'DNA strand orientation' concept.
