Marie-Paule Lefranc Curriculum Vitae (Summary)

Marie-Paule Lefranc, née Brasselet, was born in 1943, Oignies, France. Married since 1968 to Gérard Lefranc, they have five children, Anne-Christelle, Eric, Bénédicte, Isabelle and Anne-Cécile.

Marie-Paule Lefranc is presently Senior member of the Institut Universitaire de France, Chair of Immunogenetics and Immunoinformatics, since 2002. She is also Professor of Immunogenetics and Immunology, at the Université Montpellier 2, Montpellier, France, since 1985, Director with Gérard Lefranc of the Laboratoire d'ImmunoGénétique Moléculaire, LIGM at the UPR CNRS 1142, Institut de Génétique Humaine, IGH, Montpellier, France, and founder and director of IMGT®, the international ImMunoGeneTics information system®, she created in 1989 at Montpellier, France.

Prof. M.-P. Lefranc held the following positions:

Prof. M.-P. Lefranc has authored more than 300 publications in international journals. She received the Rosen Prize of Cancerology in 1988. She married Gérard Lefranc, currently Professor of Immunogenetics at the Montpellier 2 University, in 1968 and they have five children. Dr. Lefranc is a member of several international societies. She serves on the Editorial Board of Developmental and Comparative Immunology, Experimental and Clinical Immunogenetics, Immunogenetics, Molecular Immunology, Research in Immunology, on the review panel of more than 30 journals, and on the grant review committees of the National Science Foundation (NSF), Washington, USA (1994); International Human Frontier Science Program Organization (HFSPO), Strasbourg, France (1994); BIOMED2 programme of the European Community, Brussels (1995); Medical Research Council (MRC), Canada (1996); The Welcome Trust, London, UK (1996,1998); United States-Israël Binational Science Foundation (BSF), Israël (1997); Fonds National Suisse de la Recherche Scientifique, Suisse (1997); Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC), Swindon, UK (1998); 5e PCRDT programme of the European Community, Brussels (2001).

Her major research areas are on the human immunoglobulin and T cell receptor genes (chromosomes 2, 7, 14 and 22), clinical applications and therapeutical approaches (antibody engineering). Contribution in genome research includes molecular genetics of the IGH locus, complete characterization of the human T cell receptor gamma TRG locus, cloning of the human CTLA-4 gene, complete mapping of the human lambda IGL locus (1995). More than 40 genomic probes are released by HGRC, UK, JCRB, Japan and ATCC, USA.

Marie-Paule Lefranc is founder and director of the International ImMunoGeneTics information system®, IMGT®, she created in 1989 and on the Web since July 1995.

Lecturer in Biochemistry at the Faculty of Pharmacy, MONASTIR, founded in november 1975. Responsible for the creation of the Biochemistry Department and the Laboratory of Immunogenetics and Biochemistry.
