IDENTIFICATION

The 'IDENTIFICATION' axiom is one of the seven axioms of the Formal IMGT-ONTOLOGY or IMGT-Kaleidoscope [1-3].

The 'IDENTIFICATION' axiom postulates that molecules, cells, organs, organisms or populations and their processes and relations have to be identified. In molecular immunogenetics, the 'IDENTIFICATION' axiom postulates that IG, TR, MHC sequences and 3D structures have to be identified according to fundamental biological and immunogenetic characteristics [1]. The 'IDENTIFICATION' axiom has generated concepts of identification:

  1. the 'Taxon' concept
  2. the 'MoleculeType' concept
  3. the 'GeneType' concept *
  4. the 'ConfigurationType' concept *
  5. the 'Molecule_EntityType' concept
  6. the 'Functionality' concept
  7. the 'StructureType' concept
  8. the 'Molecule_ReceptorType' concept
  9. the 'ChainType' concept
  10. the 'DomainType' concept
  11. the 'Specificity' * and the 'Function' concepts
  12. the 'ClassType' and the 'SubClassType' concepts

* Asterisks indicate concepts of identification which are specific to the IG and TR.

Describes IMGT-ONTOLOGY concepts of interaction for the characterization of antigen/receptor and domain interactions. Two major concepts of interaction, pMHC contact site and IMGT Residue@Position, are used, respectively, to define peptide/MHC interactions, and more generally antigen/receptor and domain interactions.
